Cross Country

Today we went to cross country and we did a few races and on my race I come 10th.

When I go back to school I got told that I had to write a remember poem about cross country:

That was Camp

Remember everybody pushing you to the back when the race was about to start,

Remember the sound of everybody’s feet squishing up the mud as they were running,

That was Cross Country

Remember tasting all of the sweat drying up in your throat as you were turning off the beach, half way,

Remember feeling your feet hit the ground as you landed from jumping over the hurdle,

That was cross country

Remember the noise coming from your stomach as all of your stitches were having a party,

Do you remember seeing the crowd shouting at you to run faster, when your legs couldn’t carry you anymore,

That was cross country.

My next activity was how to cross roads and sneaky driveways. We also learned how to stop.

After that we got told how to were a helmet properly.

Then we did our last activity, Weaving and stops. 4 people got a slap band at the end and I got one!

Check out this game:
Wow, there are so many ways to get to school

Science day

Recently we have been learning and studding about light so we decided to have a science day. Room 1 & 2 split up into groups and started doing experiments.

My first experiment was with Ice.
All we did in this experiment was place a colored peace of paper on the table then put 1 ice cube on top of it and see what melted fast

That was only one of my experiments and their was 5 more left. They were all to do with light and they were super fun!

I enjoyed watching the Ice melt slowly because it was very intense.
I learned that card absorbs all of the light and dose not let any pass.
The trickiest part was shining the light in the right place on the spoon.
I was surprised when we made a rainbow form so soon.

Fun light experiments for kids:

  • Shine a torch through some objects and see if it is opaque, translucent, transparent.
  • Try and make a rainbow with a torch, water, mirror and a glass prism.
  • Place a object between to mirror on the same angle and look in the mirror and see how many of the objects you can see. Keep changing the angle and counting how many of the objects you can see.
  • Shine a light on a spoon and see where the light ends up, turn the spoon around and see where the light is now.

Thunder and Lighting

In reading we started learning about Lighting. We did a K W L.
This is my information in the L section:
Thunder and lighting usually come in a storm together.

If positive and negative go with thunder and lighting.
  • If you are in a storm and you can’t get inside, you have to duck down low and hide under a group of trees.
  • Metal and any object that runs on electricity attracts lighting.
  • Lighting and positive and negative go together.
  • Lighting forms by positive and negative brewing.
  • Some objects attract lighting as in metal, a single tree.
  • Some people get struck and killed by thunder and lighting.

How does a snail move?

A snail is a slimy slippery mollusc that moves very slowly leaving mucus behind. A snail is very like a slug but with a swirly shell. Snails use their shell as their home. When a snail senses a predator around it hides it a shell so it is safe.  A snail feeds on food found in it’s natural habitat. Snails go into gardens and eat your crops. But have you ever wondered how a snail moves?

A snail moves slowly using their one leg. Their leg holds most of a its muscle. Snail’s ungulate which speeds them up a little bit ( but it still makes them go faster ). They also slides on their slime (mucus) they use it like we use a water side but they use it all the time.

Mucus also sticks which allows snails to slide upside down and go around things. Mucus is made by snails riding over water, then they mucus and spread it all around their body. Snails eat variety of food found in their natural habitat which is usually healthy so they have more energy to move.

Now you hopefully know some information about how a snail moves. Remember a snail is a slippery slimy mollusc that slowly eats all your crops, be careful.

Fun facts about snails:
  • Achatinidae snails live up to 7 years at the most and 5 at the least, unless it is killed by a predator which most of them are.
  • Snails have thousands of species.
  • A giant tiger land snail is the biggest snail in the world and it reaches up to 25.4 Centimeter.
  • If snails eat healty their shell will be stronger.
  • There are about 600 different species of cone snails
  • About 30 humans have been killed by cone snails
  • Sea snails breathe with gills, land snails breathe with lungs

Now another Question, Why do snails eat all of your crops?

Note taking of snails

This is our note taking of :
  • The snail uses their one foot to push them along.
  • They move side to side which is called undulating
  • Snails mostly move on a flat surface
  • When they move they make a trail of slime called mucus
  • The snail trail is stick this allows they to travel upside down, Sideways and straight
  • The slime protects them when they move along.
  • They have lines underneath their body.
  • They have an shell so when they are moving an preditor can't bite them because the shell is in the way.
  • Snails eat a variety of food found in their natural habitat.
  • Land snails move by gliding along their muscular foot. This motion is powered by succeeding waves of muscular contractions that move down the ventral of the foot.
  • They leave a slimy trail behind.
  • Snails have a curly spiral on their shell
  • Snails eat a variety of food found in their natural habitat.
  • Alot of people find snails gross and ugly.
  • one of the main reasons why snails die is because they become food for other animals.
  • Most of their body of the snail is called the foot.
  • A snail moves on his slime/ mucus when he goes fast the snail's mucus  becomes more slippery and it can go even faster.
  • As they move the mucus comes out of the front right out of an hole in the foot.
  • It can live from 5-25 years depending if an bird of animal eats them.
Check out this website where we found our information.

We found some snails and watched them climb up the window:
